Hanging Rock Heathcote Shiraz 2006 - Ralph Kyte-Powell (The Age- Uncorked) June 2010
Ralph Kyte-Powell The Age (Uncorked)
Heathcote shiraz attracts lots of interest. As in most emerging regions, quality varies but the best wines are very good indeed.
Hanging Rock’s top ’06 shiraz offers slightly raisiny, blackberry and plum aromas, notes of spice and smoky oak in excellent balance. The ripe, dry palate is tightly structured and long in flavour. All it needs is age. (14.5 per cent alcohol; screw cap)
Ageing? Two to 10 years.
Food Ideas: Roasted marinated beef short ribs; braised lamb.
Stockists include: Old and Rare Wines, Southbank; Grosvenor Hotel, St Kilda
