7.5/10 2014 ROCK Sauvignon Blanc Semillon
Scoffer Magazine- www.scoffermagazine.com- July 2015
Good Value doesn’t have to mean ordinary plonk. In some cases, it can mean very good, and on occasion, exceptionally good plonk. This wine sits somewhere in the middle. From Hanging Rock in Victoria’s Macedon Ranges, The Rock Semillon Sauvignon Blanc is fresh crisp and fruity. The vibrant tropical flavours from the Sauv Blanc meld well with the more honey like notes in the semillon.
Hanging Rock always leaves me wanting to run around and scream ‘Miraaaaandaaaa’ and get all melodramatic. Its a very pretty and picturesque space to visit and taste – perfect for a day trip and also a grand place to check out some other smaller, artisan wineries. Or grab some wine and have your own Picnic at Hanging Rock on the lovely lawns at Hanging Rock winery.
This is an entry level wine and sits nicely in their range alongside the differently crafted and more expensive offerings. It does have a lovely lychee and passionfruit taste, to be expected of course, without being too overbearing and sickly. Some nice, herb like undertones level it out a bit and create a lovely finish. It is a fun wine that doesn’t demand food but will sit nicely with something light.
Would drink it again? Yes – its an easy drinking drop.
