Heathcote Shiraz 2000 Newcastle Herald Rating: 5/5
I found this a much more elegant and sophisticated wine than its predecessors, but still with the earthiness and rich fruitiness that proclaims ‘Heathcote’. It is a very approachable wine right now and would go nicely with tandoori lamb, char-grilled kangaroo fillets or veal goulash.
The wine is crimson with bright magenta tints and has scents of earth and mocha coffee. Smooth powerful plum flavour dominates the front of the palate and cassis characters overlaid with with peppermint, chocolate and licorice, develop on the middle palate. Lingering fruit, subtle nutty oak and flinty tannins combine at the finish.
