Geometric Being 6

George Lianos was fascinated with art from a young age, Henry Moore being his greatest inspiration. He completed a Diploma in Graphic Design in 1974, but soon his love of sculpture predominated. In 1978 George was commissioned for a series of sculptures in Greece. For the last 17 years he has been working in his studio based in Malmsbury. In 2002, he was commissioned to make a 3 metre bronze sculpture for a private residence in Melbourne. He has been involved in many group and solo exhibitions, the latest solo exhibition being at the Latrobe Art Institute. His sculptures have been showing in various galleries in Victoria and around Australia.

 George enjoys experimentation and variety in his sculpture. The ’Geometric’ series plays with the interactions and relationships of geometric shapes, line and movement to create sculptures which are both aesthetically pleasing and intriguing. ’Geometric Being 6’ is an experimental use of two 3D shapes and their inter-relationship. These self imposed parameters create a framework. The sculpture uses two shapes alternately poised and balanced on each other creating something that has presence and looks somewhat like a geometric being.
