This wine was created by John Ellis exclusively for our wine club members. The Members Reserve label features special blends or varietal wines that represent quality and exceptional value.

The Heathcote Wine Region in central Victoria is now acknowledged as one of Australia’s best Shiraz growing regions. The region features a deep strip of rare and ancient red Cambrian soil with excellent moisture retention characteristics; virtually eliminating the need for irrigation. This red soil gives Heathcote Shiraz its distinctive character.

Our Heathcote fruit is always picked for flavour – we aim for consistency in this aspect of the wine. The grapes for this wine are 94 % Shiraz and 6% Viognier.

Heathcote Shiraz produced under the Hanging Rock label makes use of new ‘steam bent’ medium toast American and French oak barriques that engender a smoother more subtle oak character with minimal vanillin influences. Parcels of the wine were matured in this oak for around 20 months.

In the mouth this wine is rich with a tight and vibrant structure with chocolate and mulberry through the mid palate and a soft tannin structure.
This wine is ready for enjoyment now and will also reward careful cellaring for five to six years.
