Macedon Brut Cuvée LD VII- Sparkling Success
Ken Gargett Gourmet Traveller Wine
“For me, the sparkling wines of Hanging Rock have always been among our very best and the latest round of tastings confirm that.”
“As for Macedon, I have just finished judging the 2008 Macedon Ranges Wine Exhibition, and it was evident the gap between Tasmania and the best of the mainland is narrower then some think. The region is producing fruit that is first class for sparkling wine.”
“NV Hanging Rock Macedon LD Extended Lees Aged Brut Cuvée VII (A$115). The Winery will soon move to Cuvée VIII but given its track record, it is difficult to think there will be any diminution of quality... It is a chardonnay-pinot noir blend, low dosage, with 50 per cent of the wine coming from the 1996 vintage and the rest a mix of vintages from 1987 to 1995. A stunning, complex, and always interesting drop, for me it might just be the best sparkling wine we have made in this country, though there are plenty of contenders. ” |
