Annointed Son
Winestate Magazine
A NEW generation of the Ellis family is set to take the winemaking reins at Hanging Rock Winery in Macedon Ranges. Robert ‘Rob’ Ellis, son of John and Ann, has been appointed the new head winemaker at the winery that specialises in sparkling and table wines from Macedon and Heathcote. John Ellis, who founded the winery in 1982, says the decision to give Rob more responsibility doesn’t signal his own retirement. “I’m not hanging up my boots yet”, he says. He considers his new role as ‘mentor’ to his son, who has spent recent vintages making wine at Hewitson in the Barossa Valley. Daughter Ruth is also involved in Hanging Rock Winery, in charge of sales and marketing. -Page 10, Winestate Magazine May/June issue.
