Nicole’s love of sculpture first started whilst gaining her Diploma of Visual Arts. Following her studies, Nicole then travelled to Africa, specifically to Tengenenge in Zimbawe, where she studied stone carving, with Bernard Matemera and developed a deep appreciation of the primitive art and, particularly, the figurative form.
Nicole then furthered her interest in the figurative from, exploring the combination of stone, cast aluminium, steel and stainless steel.
Charlie Aquilina - 'Flirt'
Charlie is constantly pursuing his passion for creating and improving his skills. Working with steel, cold forming and forging using natural forms are his inspiration. He finds carving in stone also challenging and sometimes combining the two, steel and stone, subtracting from one and adding to the other.
James Cattell - 'Zephyr'
James was born in 1954 in New Zealand, where he studied law, history, philosophy, literature and art. This eclectic education is absorbed into his practice as a painter and sculptor, along with his long-held interest in early machinery and sideshow art.
For the first ten years after moving to Australia, he worked as a puppeteer and street performer and lived surrounded by dusty sculptures and paintings.
In 1988, he and his partner, Dorelle Davidson, started an art business, ‘Honeyweather & Speight’, producing murals and mosaic, children’s books, play-pieces and site-specific sculptural works. During this time he has continued his studio practice, still surrounded by dusty objects and artefacts that might one day be incorporated into his work.
Ralf Driessen - 'Bipolar Eccentric'
After dropping out of University, Ralf completed an apprenticeship as an artist blacksmith and a diploma in metal design in Germany. He travelled the world as a journeyman and ended up settling in Australia.
He believes that as a visual artist, if he has to write about his work, he misses the point.
He doesn’t want to tell you what to think, he wants you to think. So, he gives us an object and a title, and now it's your turn to come up with a story.
Ben Fasham - 'BJF23'
Ben is an experienced sculpture fabricator, who has been able to further explore his own sculpture practice. His work has been selected for major exhibitions including Sculpture by the Sea in both Bondi and Cottesloe, The Helen Lempriere National Sculpture Award, Deakin University Contemporary Sculpture Award, Sculpture on Clyde and Toorak Village Sculpture Exhibition. His works and commissions can be found in a number of private collections, and also in Dingley Village with the Dingley Anzac Memorial.
Tanja George - 'Resounding Blue'
Tanja George was born in Vienna (Austria) but grew up in Germany where she worked as a journalist for Esquire magazine.
In her early twenties she moved to Australia where she studied fine art, which encompassed photography, film making, painting and sculpture. After her fine art studies she gained a Bachelor of Film and Television at the Victorian College of the Arts. She has made several short films which were screened at film festivals all over the world.
In recent years though, Tanja's creativity has returned to sculpture. She has exhibited in many exhibitions throughout Australia, won first prize at the INSPIRED Art Award and several of her sculptures were 'highly commended’. She also completed a commission of 16 sculptures for the Sydney Park Hyatt Hotel.
In the fabrication of her sculptures, Tanja uses a vast variety of mediums and materials, from video projections to bronze and steel, to photographs, plaster and packaging material.
More than wishing to supply answers, Tanja wants to pose questions. She would like to inspire the viewers to have their own thoughts on the universe, our relationship with it and human nature.
Anton Hasell - 'Bell and Feather'
Anton is a sculptor that explores the use of both traditional and digital tools in the design of bells, interactive public-space installation, sculpture and printmaking.
He is best known for the creation of the Federation Bells Carillon in Melbourne and for other public-space artworks in Australia, New Zealand and the USA.
Anton wants to share his delight in the wondrous and mysterious world with others equally fascinated by their experiences in life. He explores his imagination, making real (as he can) the swirling images, sounds and ideas in the hope that these experimental investigations resonate with fellow dreamers and inquisitive souls that, together, might manifest in life lived to the full.
Rudi Jass - 'Circles'
As an artist, Rudi takes his instruction and inspiration from forms in nature - from the detail contained in a seedpod to the fragility of a massive riverbed.
The observer might use his work as a point of contemplation of our connectedness to the natural world and the extraordinary minutiae it contains.
Rudi recently won the 2018 Yering Station / Montsalvat Outdoor Sculpture Award.
James Parrett - 'M-fortythree'
James has been sculpting for over 20 years. He has been a finalist in numerous sculpture prizes, created several solo exhibitions and awarded a number of commissions, most notably The Rabaul and Montevideo Maru memorial at the Australian War Memorial (Canberra 2012).
James is winner of the Montalto Winery Sculpture Prize in 2016 and recipient of the 2018 Aqualand Sculpture Prize, the major award at Sculpture by the Sea in Bondi.

Jimmy Rix - 'Bobbing Boat'
Jimmy works predominately in Corten steel a medium he associates with the rusting metal relic found on his family farm in south east Queensland.
He is represented in many important collections and his ability to work in large scale sculpture has seen him execute nine large scale public commission works in Sydney, Newcastle, Canberra, Perth, Bowral and Forbes for various companies, including Transport NSW and artsACT.
An award winner of the Gippsland Sculpture Prize in 2019 and the Lake Lights Sculpture Prize in 2014 and 2015, his works are included in Shoalhaven Regional Gallery and James Fairfax Estate collections.
Jimmy has held 13 solo exhibitions, has exhibited in over 60 group exhibitions including Sculpture by the Sea 12 times.
He is represented in Sydney and Melbourne by Australian Galleries.

Adrian Spurr - 'Future Seed'
Adrian is a sculptor fascinated with surface, texture and the physical materiality sculptural media. Prior to his Fine Art, Undergraduate and Post Graduate studies, he completed an English Literature degree with the aim of becoming a poet. As a consequence, his sculptural works are frequently imbued with a narrative.
Anthony Vanderzweep - 'Wing-it'
Anthony has worked as a sculptor in bronze for 30 years focusing on his favourite animal designs, but has now taken on the challenge of making a kinetic sculpture for Art in the Vines – Sculpture in Motion. He felt he needed to try a new medium, buy some new tools and learn a few new tricks (never too old) in the studio. ‘Wing-it’ is his first kinetic sculpture.
Dan Wollmering - 'Wind-stack'
Dan Wollmering (PhD MA BA) has been making sculpture for over forty years. Arriving in late January 1975 from a numbing cold winter in Minnesota to blistering hot summer of Melbourne, he headed straight to St Kilda beach to cool down and recover from jet-lag.
Wollmering was recruited along with many Canadians, UK and USA teachers to fill positions in Secondary Schools across Victoria. Commencing his career teaching Art & Craft at Secondary, tutored in Art Education and Woodcraft at Coburg State Teachers College, then Richmond TAFE, following on to become a lecturer in Woodcraft and Sculpture at Gippsland Institute of Advanced Education (now Federation University) finishing as senior Lecturer and Head of Sculpture at Monash University.
During these appointments, he has exhibited widely in solo and group exhibitions, received commissions and overseas residencies as well as publishing papers and presenting at conferences connected to themes within Sculpture, Spatial Practice and Public Art. Concepts and themes over the decades as related to his practice, have emerged from: art theory, abstraction, socio-political frameworks and ‘sculpitecture’.
