The Members Reserve wines are created by Hanging Rock’s winemaker Robert Ellis, overseen by owner John Scott Ellis (JSE) exclusively for our loyal Wine Club Members.
Each year Rob keeps the best shiraz fruit parcel from our valued Heathcote grape growers to make this wine.
If you're not in our Wine Club, the good news is that a small amount remains, so we've now made it available for anyone to purchase, but only while stock lasts.
2018 was a hot, dry vintage across the Heathcote region. Lots of late spring / early summer rain was a welcome sight, and a dry February / March made for some great disease free, concentrated fruit from across the region. For this reason Rob has decided to whole bunch ferment approximately 20% of the wine, to give the wine a softness and a savoury edge that it needed to offset the fruit driven nature of the vintage.
Colour: Deep red with a cherry red and slightly purple hue.
Nose: Intense all spice and floral aromas with notes of plums and cherries.
Palate: Plum, spice and white pepper are the dominant flavours of the wine, however the most exciting thing is the texture and structure. The velvet tannin blend so well with the round lush mouth feel of the wine. The finish is long and complex with a lushness and savouriness all at once. To us, this feeling of power with elegance is a quintessential tell-tale of a well-made Heathcote wine.
