Every year our Winemaker, Rob Ellis has 1 particular barrel of wine which he feels stands out above the rest and should be kept seperate and given the respect it deserves.
This wine is made in the style of Beaujolais Nouveau. It's made by fermenting the Heathcote Shiraz fruit as whole bunches and letting the fruit go through 100% Carbonic Maceration (which gives the wine richness and softness). It's made to be drunk as a young fresh wine.
2018 was regarded as a spectacular vintage across most of Victoria, Lots of spring and early summer rain set the vineyards up for a bountiful, rich ripe crop. This meant that making a light, fruit driven yet complex wine was easy and makes this wine a joy to drink.
Colour: Crimson red.
Nose: A mixture of lifted floral aromas with cardamon and raspberries
Palate: This is a very fresh and lively wine. There is plenty of upfront berry fruit characters with refreshing acidity and a slight stalkiness. The palate is rich and full with crisp undertones.
Awards & Reviews: None yet, but there is only 25 dozen of it, so wine writers won't get much of a look in.
