'The Jim Jim' is a small mountain elevation of 750m, just near the famous Hanging Rock in the Macedon Ranges Wine Region of Victoria. It is cold by world viticultural standards, producing wines that have a lot in common with the cooler regions of France and New Zealand and bearing little similarity to those of the warmer parts of Australia where this variety is often grown.
2020 was a great year. Not only did we get very good, clean crops but we also got a nice quantity of fruit as well. A warm summer without many extremely hot days and a moderate amount of rain at the right times meant that the vines were very healthy and produced a great crop with great flavours.
This wine is a blend of Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer & Riesling, all grown on our Jim Jim vineyard. The 2020 vintage is the seventh in which we have blended these parcels of fruit together to make this traditional blend. These three cool climate varieties complement each other greatly. The Riesling is crisp, the Pinot Gris adds a savoury note and weight and the Gewurztraminer adds a pretty floral note and some richness to the wine.
Colour: Mid straw with golden tinge.
Nose: A powerful lifted turkish delight and peach aroma.
Palate: This wine shows layers of complexity. It has both minerality, honey and stone fruit characters, complemented by a round, lush texture through to a clean, crisp, refreshing finish.
