Paul Hurley is a Macedon based chainsaw sculptor who works with wood, mostly wattle, cypress and willow, sourced from local arborists.
He developed his love of chainsaw carving when he saw a better use for the fallen trees on his property, other than just cutting it up for firewood.
Descended from Irish convicts, many of Pauls pieces take inspiration from the kings and warriors of Irish folklore.
Many of his other pieces are inspired by the native visitors to his family’s garden such as cockatoos, echidnas, blue tongue lizards, wombats and koalas.
Paul primarily uses several different sized chainsaws, with the finer work being completed with an angle grinder, a die grinder and a powerful Dremmel.
All his work is weatherproofed with a wood conditioner and marine grade waterproof spar coating, used on ship masts, for durability outside in the garden.
Paul is also offering custom work completed either in his workshop, on site for larger pieces, or on existing tree stumps
Fionn mac Cumhaill, also known as Finn McCool, the legendary leader of a band of Irish warrior hunters. Legend has it that he created the Giants Causeway by building a path to Scotland to fight a Scottish giant. Carved from willow sourced in The Macedon Ranges
