Mela has two daughters who are very athletic and like many of her friends, they are drawn to the water. There is something quintessentially Australian about the love of water, whether that be the ocean, rivers, creeks or pools.
Mela is drawn to sculpting swimmers as they are usually very contemplative and beautifully serene subjects, especially after having swum large numbers of laps.
