REVIEW: HANGING ROCK THE JIM JIM CHARDONNAY 2018
August 1, 2020
I think the Hanging Rock table wines are most underrated. The bubbles get plenty of attention, but there’s glory across the board. This Hanging Rock The Jim Jim Chardonnay 2018 is from Macedon Ranges, but the winery also makes reds from Heathcote too.
As ever with this very very cool site, delicacy reigns supreme, despite the ripe fruit. It’s punchy through the middle, even quite old school in weight and oak/fruit richness, but with squeaky acidity holding things together. I don’t mind this at all, the contrasts making for plenty to get your head around. Best drinking: over the next five years. 18/20, 93/100. 13.7%, $40. Would I buy it? Worth a few glasses.
