Visiting the Winery

1. What are your opening hours?
The Cellar Door is open 7 days a week from 10am–5pm, including every public holiday except Good Friday and Christmas Day.

2. Do I need to book a wine tasting?
No. Individual tastings are complimentary and bookings are not required. Group tastings (8+ people) need to be booked in advance and come with a tasting fee.

3. How much does a wine tasting cost?
Individual tastings are complimentary. Guided group tastings incur a fee.

4. Where is Hanging Rock Winery located?
We are based in the beautiful Macedon Ranges at 88 Jim Road, Newham, Victoria. 

5. How far from Melbourne is Hanging Rock Winery?
We are roughly one hour to the North West of Melbourne's CBD. 

6. What is the best way to get to Hanging Rock Winery from Melbourne?
We are just 10 minutes off the Calder Freeway if you get off at the Woodend Romsey exit

Food & Wine

5. Do you have a restaurant?
No. The winery offers local produce platters all year round. We also offer light lunches such as Toasted Reubens and estate grown Hanging Rock Beef pies and sausage rolls on occasions. Best to check with the winery before you come for that days afferings. Please note that we do not operate a commercial restaurant.

6. Can we have lunch at the winery?
Yes. Visitors can enjoy local produce platters and limited hot food options while enjoying the views of Hanging Rock and Mount Macedon. Please check with the winery in advance for that day's offerings as it changes seasonally and throughout the week. 

7. What wines are you known for?
Most commonly: Macedon sparkling wines, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Heathcote Shiraz. Please note that we have over 20 wines for tasting through our Cellar Door. 

8. Can I buy wine online?
Yes, the full range is available through the winery website.

9. What is Art in the Vines?
Art in the Vines is one of Country Victoria's largest outdoor sculpture exhibitions, running throughout the year.

10. Is there anything to do besides wine tasting?
Yes. Visitors can explore the sculpture exhibition, picnic on the lawns, enjoy the views, attend events and browse estate-grown beef products.

Families, Dogs & Groups

11. Is Hanging Rock Winery dog-friendly?
Yes. Dogs on leads are welcome in outdoor areas.

12. Is the winery family-friendly?
Yes. The large lawns, outdoor spaces and picnic areas make it popular with families.

13. Can we visit as a large group?
Yes. Group tastings and functions can be arranged, with dedicated tasting experiences for larger bookings. Please contact us to book in advance. 

14. Can we bring a picnic?
As we offer picnic style food on site we ask that you restrict any outside food to food for children and dietary specific food. Please note that we are strictly a non BYO alcohol venue. 

Functions & Events

14. Do you host weddings, corporate events or private functions?
The winery hosts small functions and private events in its marquee space, which overlooks Hanging Rock and Mount Macedon. Please note that our catering options are very limited. 16. Who owns Hanging Rock Winery?
The winery was established by the Ellis family in 1983 and remains family-owned and operated by the founders children, Ruth & Robert Ellis.
