Meet Our Show Team

Over the years we have developed a love for showing cattle. For us it's a great way to show off our hard work over the year and keep in touch with other passionate producers in the industry. We couldn't do any of it without our exceptionally talented show team. To keep up to date with the Hanging Rock Speckle Park Stud team please follow us onfacebook.

John Ellis - Cattle Master

John spent most of his 50+ year career as one of Australia's preeminent winemakers. In 2011 his children, Ruth and Robert, took over the day to day running of the winery so he decided that instead of picking up golf, he would be productive and focus on the cattle side of the business. He had always had cattle on their 190 acre property in the Macedon Ranges, however they had been cross-breds that were lawn mowers more than anything.

He didn't come into the cattle industry completely green, before becoming a winemaker John had studied veterinary science at Melbourne University and his wife Ann came from a long line of serious cattle people in New South Wales.

These days John is loving life as much as ever. He has surrounded himself with an amazing team of young enthusiastic cattle people. He's as fit and active as he's ever been and loves spending time feeding and looking after his cattle on a day to day basis.

Paul Hourn

Paul came to us via recommendation when we first started getting interested in showing cattle. One of the things that drew us to him was his enthusiasm for working with kids and young people, including his work with Stud Beef Victoria's Cattle Handlers Camp and now the Speckle Park Scone Youth Camp.  Paul grew up in country NSW around cattle. Over time he has made a name for himself as one of Australia's preeminent fitters of show cattle. He has spent most of his working life driving trucks for companies such as Linfox and other independent operators. These days Paul is our cattle, show team and trucking manager. You can follow Paul on his trucking adventures on theHanging Rock Livestock Transport Facebook Page

Daniel Porter

Daniel is an intergral part of the Hanging Rock team. He comes to us with a huge amount of experience for his years. In 2009 as a teenager he started doing his high school's cattle program, which prompted him to go to Stud Beef Victoria's Cattle Handlers Camp. In 2013 he did a stint jackerooing at Buchanan Downs. Dan's big claim to fame was winning the Sullivan's Stock Show University scholarship through Stud Beef Victoria Cattle Handlers Camp in 2016 which took him to the USA to study at Sullivan's. Whilst there he worked on animals being prepared for the Sullivan's Farm Maternity Legends sale. He also participated in a stock show University Grad program whilst over there.

He came back to work as part of the Hanging Rock team and has started his own company with Paris- Peninsula Cattle Company which includes their Shorthorn stud.

Paris Hourn

Paris has been working alongside her father Paul since before she could walk. She has won countless handlers competitions and has paraded some of the best cattle in the country over her career.

She is currently undergoing her Bachelor of Agriculture which follows onto veterinary science.

Paris and Daniel have the Peninsula Cattle Company which includes their own Shorthorn stud.

Jack Ellis

John's grandson Jack is the youngest member of the Ellis family to join the Hanging Rock Speckle Park team. John and Jack were the oldest and youngest participants at Cattle Handlers Camp when Jack was 9 years old. Jack has plenty of experience dealing with and showing cattle. He also has his own stud, along with his father David- Garrick Hill Speckle Park Stud.

Mia Hourn

Mia, like her sister Paris also grew up around cattle, working with her father for as long as she can remember. She is an important and talented part of the Hanging Rock show team. She also has her own stud- MH Speckle Park Stud
