On the Nose

On the Nose - Stephen Glassborow

Stephen Glassborow is a UK born sculptor based in NSW. As figurative sculptures, his bronze works oscillate between academic studies characteristic of art nouveau whilst simultaneously abstract in part. Glassborow cleverly uses architectural structures that morph and pixelate into the gestures of his figures. The affect is a conversation of the figure in relationship to their precarious environment, reflecting on the shifting times of technologies, robotics and mechanics. Glassborow studied Fine Arts at the Brighton College of the Arts, he has exhibited nationally and internationally, producing large scale public commissions in Victoria and Kuala Lumpur as well as holding works in private collections in the USA, Australia and the Pacific Region.

Stephen Glassborow presents us with the horse; philosophical, elegant and moving forward head first. Celebrating a powerful historical narrative and one of the earliest depictions of fine art. This classically executed anatomy, juxtaposed with the blue colour work playfully balances the interplay of history, status and contemporary presentation right ‘on the nose’.
