Originally exhibited on a horizontal axis, PURGATORY has been elevated to a vertical position evoking an incarcerated being in a state of limbo. The carved red gum timber encases the form in a caged matrix allowing no escape from its fate.
Faustus Sadauskas has practised as a sculptor originating from a ceramics background to further his oeuvre into contemporary, abstract and figurative works. Through the use of locally sourced materials, including timber and marble he employs traditional methods and techniques to directly carve and finish permanent works to outlive their maker.
